You are our champions for our kids with cancer!
Dear Supporters and Friends:
We wanted to assure you that the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation has not stopped assisting families as we always have–helping with their bills, providing counseling to calm their fears, and making sure they have food on the table.
As restrictions are lifted statewide, we have re-opened our four food pantries and have reinstated our in-home grocery deliveries to families, though with additional safety precautions to protect everyone involved. Because many ECF kids are immune-compromised, our caseworkers will not be entering any homes at this time and will continue with virtual counseling for the families. As necessary, we will adapt to this evolving situation in order to keep everyone safe while staying true to our mission.
As always, we deeply appreciate your support and kindness. We hope you and your loved ones stay well, and please feel free to contact us with any questions at 908-322-4323.
Joann Passantino, Executive Director
Welcome to ECF
The Emmanuel Cancer Foundation provides New Jersey families facing the crisis of pediatric cancer a place to turn for comfort and support through professional in-home counseling and a uniquely tailored package of assistance – all free-of-charge.
What We Do
We provide professional counseling, emotional support and advocacy assistance free for the entire family.
Through our four Regional Centers, we work with volunteers to collect and distribute groceries, toys, clothing, household items, and birthday and holiday gifts.
On February 5, 1981, Emmanuel Vizzoni was diagnosed with Burkett’s lymphoma just weeks after his seventh birthday. Over the next two months, his parents, Joseph and Susan Vizzoni, alternated shifts at the hospital while their son endured grueling medical treatments. Sadly, on April 5 of that year, the lymphoma claimed Manny’s life, leaving his family to pick up the pieces.
Coping with their grief and explaining to their younger daughter why her brother had simply “disappeared” proved to be incredibly difficult for the Vizzoni family. At that time, medical treatments for pediatric cancers were developing rapidly; however there were large gaps in the emotional, spiritual, and financial support available for families. Susan reflects, “Joe and I came to understand—because we were running back and forth to the hospital while family members helped care for our daughter—that families with other circumstances must have an incredibly difficult time managing this. We realized that the best thing we could do to cope with our own loss was to start helping others in this situation.”
