Meet Shrey

After months of worsening leg pain and repeated reassurances that it was only a stress fracture, 14-year-old Shrey was diagnosed with osteosarcoma when an ER scan revealed bone cancer. Following intensive chemotherapy, Shrey chose a complex limb-salvage surgery over amputation, enduring a grueling 15-hour procedure that replaced much of his leg with titanium.

His treatment journey was filled with setbacks including infections, additional hospitalizations, heart damage, a feeding tube, and even a fractured ankle the night he returned home from his final chemotherapy treatment.

Throughout it all, Shrey remained remarkably positive, often reassuring his mother, “It’s OK mom, I’m going to beat this.”

While his mother left her job to care for him, ECF helped the family with household bills, groceries, emotional support, and resources for ongoing physical therapy. Now back in school as a high school junior, Shrey has joined the golf team and continues moving forward with the resilience his mom says defines him: “He rests and then comes back. He just keeps moving forward.”
