Meet Cairo

Cairo was diagnosed with cancer at just four months old, in the middle of the pandemic, after his parents pushed for a second opinion when they noticed concerning changes in his stomach and rib cage. He endured 13 rounds of chemotherapy while his mother spent long days alone with him in the hospital because Covid restrictions kept his father away. Despite painful treatments, hair loss, and countless needle sticks, Cairo never cried, instead dancing and singing Blue’s Clues songs to keep spirits up.

During this difficult time, Cairo’s family also faced financial hardship after his mother lost her job during the pandemic. Thanks to donor support, ECF helped the family with rent, groceries, gift cards, and holiday and birthday gifts. Now two-and-a-half years old and finished with treatment, Cairo loves music, dancing, and Pete the Cat books. Though doctors continue monitoring lesions on his lungs, his mom says he is no longer afraid of the hospital and even looks forward to seeing his doctors and nurses.
